Fethiye is a major Mediterranean holiday destination in Mugla, known for its Lycian heritage, Oludeniz, Babadag, Kayakoy, beaches, bays and outdoor activities.
Fethiye lies on the Mediterranean coast in the south-east of Mugla Province. Dalaman Airport is the nearest major airport for most international and domestic arrivals.
The ancient history of Fethiye reaches back to the Lycian settlement of Telmessos. Rock-cut tombs, theatre remains and nearby Lycian cities still shape the destination’s cultural identity.
Fethiye has a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, wetter winters. Summer suits beach holidays, while spring and autumn are ideal for walking and cultural trips.

The ancient past of modern Fethiye reaches back to Telmessos. The city became an important centre of the Lycian world and later experienced Persian, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, Turkish principality and Ottoman periods.
Telmessos was an important Lycian centre known for rock-cut tombs and ancient settlements around the modern town.
The city continued to develop under Roman rule; its theatre and archaeological remains reflect this layered history.
The region became part of the Menteshe principality and later the Ottoman Empire, when it was widely known as Meğri.
The district was renamed Fethiye in memory of Fethi Bey, a pioneering figure in Turkish aviation history.
For first-time visitors, these stops provide a strong introduction to the history and natural diversity of Fethiye.
The lagoon, Belcekiz Beach, boat trips and Babadag views make it the best-known symbol of Fethiye.
